Description

This Cheesy Herb Quick Bread is a savory, moist loaf packed with sharp cheddar and fresh herbs like thyme, chives, or parsley. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or alongside soups and salads, it’s an easy no-yeast bread that bakes quickly with a golden crust and tender crumb.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs (thyme, chives, or parsley)

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a standard loaf pan.

  • Mix Dry Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and fresh herbs.

  • Add Cheese:

    • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.

  • Combine Wet Ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, and egg until smooth.

  • Mix & Pour:

    • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir gently just until moistened; avoid overmixing to keep bread tender.

    • Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

  • Bake:

    • Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Cool & Serve:

    • Let bread cool for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Swap cheddar for other cheeses like Gruyère or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a subtle kick.

  • Wrap leftover bread in foil and store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
