Ingredients

For the chocolate cake:

  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240ml) hot water or brewed coffee

For the chocolate buttercream:

  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 3 1/2 cups (440g) powdered sugar

  • 1/2 cup (45g) cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

For the chocolate drip:

  • 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla; mix until combined. Gradually add hot water or coffee; batter will be thin. Divide into pans and bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.

2️⃣ Make buttercream: Beat butter until creamy. Sift in powdered sugar and cocoa. Add vanilla, salt, and heavy cream; beat until fluffy and smooth.

3️⃣ Assemble cake: Level cake layers if needed. Fill and frost cake with chocolate buttercream. Chill for at least 30 minutes.

4️⃣ Make chocolate drip: Heat heavy cream until steaming, pour over chocolate, let sit 2

Notes

Use warm coffee in the cake batter to enhance chocolate flavor.
✅ Chill the cake before adding the drip for best results.
✅ Decorate with sprinkles, chocolate shards, or berries for extra flair.
