  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup dark chocolate, melted
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin.
  • Mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  • Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk.
  • Divide into cupcake liners and bake for 18–20 minutes. Cool before frosting.
  • Make the frosting: Beat melted chocolate, butter, powdered sugar, and cream until smooth.
  • Pipe onto cupcakes and garnish with chocolate shavings.
