Description

This Garbage Bread is a deliciously overstuffed, cheesy meat roll loaded with seasoned ground beef, onions, pickles, bacon, and melty American cheese, all wrapped in golden French bread dough. Perfect for game day, parties, or an indulgent dinner

Ingredients

Filling:

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1/2 cup diced onion

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 11 oz tube Pillsbury refrigerated French bread dough

  • 1/3 cup ketchup

  • 3 tablespoons mustard

  • 6 slices cooked and crumbled bacon (or 1 package bacon pieces)

  • 2 dill pickle spears, chopped

  • 8 slices American cheese (e.g., Kraft Deli Deluxe)

Topping:

  • 1 large egg, beaten

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Serving Sauce:

  • Thousand Island dressing (for dipping)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or spray with non-stick spray.

  • Cook Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned. Season with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease.

  • Prepare Dough: On a floured surface, roll out French bread dough to about 14×9 inches.

  • Assemble: Spread ketchup and mustard over the dough. Layer on cooked beef mixture, bacon, pickles, and cheese slices.

  • Roll & Seal: Roll the dough jelly-roll style, tucking in sides to seal. Place seam-side down on baking sheet.

  • Top & Bake: Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.

  • Serve: Cool slightly before slicing. Serve with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.

Notes

  • Customize with jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms, or hot sauce.

  • Best served warm but also great reheated.

  • Use parchment to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
