Description
Sausage Gravy Puff Pie wraps rich, creamy sausage gravy in buttery, golden puff pastry for a comfort food masterpiece. With a crisp crust and a savory, peppery filling, it’s perfect for brunch, cozy dinners, or holiday mornings.
Ingredients
-
1 lb ground breakfast sausage
-
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
-
2 cups whole milk
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
-
Preheat Oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking dish or pie pan with parchment or lightly grease.
-
Make Sausage Gravy: In a skillet over medium heat, brown sausage until fully cooked. Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1–2 minutes. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using. Let cool slightly.
-
Assemble Pie: Roll out one sheet of puff pastry to fit the base of your baking dish. Press it into the pan. Pour the cooled sausage gravy into the crust.
-
Top with Puff Pastry: Place the second puff pastry sheet on top. Trim and crimp edges to seal. Cut slits in the top to vent steam.
-
Bake: Beat egg and brush over the top crust. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
-
Cool & Serve: Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
-
Add shredded cheddar for a cheesy twist.
-
For extra richness, use half-and-half instead of milk.
-
Best served fresh, but leftovers reheat well in a toaster oven.
