For the Beef Steaks

  • 1 1/2 lb (700 g) beef sirloin or round steaks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Creamy Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 lb (900 g) Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/23/4 cup warm milk or cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes Boil potatoes until tender, drain, and mash with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt.
  2. Sear the Steaks Season steaks, sear in a skillet until browned. Set aside.
  3. Make the Onion Gravy Caramelize onions, add garlic, then broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer.
  4. Simmer the Steaks Return steaks to the skillet, cover, and cook until tender.
  5. Serve Plate mashed potatoes, top with steaks and gravy. Garnish with parsley.
