Description

This classic School Pizza recipe is a nostalgic favorite, featuring a tender homemade crust, savory sausage and ground beef filling, and a flavorful homemade tomato sauce. Perfect for feeding a crowd or a family dinner, this pizza is simple to make and packed with delicious layers.

Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup powdered milk

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 package quick rise yeast

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 2/3 cups warm water (110-115°F)

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage

  • 1/2 lb ground chuck (beef)

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 (8 oz) block mozzarella cheese, shredded

For the Sauce (make the day before for best flavor):

  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste

  • 1 1/2 cups water

  • 1/3 cup olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • 1/2 tbsp dried oregano

  • 1/2 tbsp dried basil

  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary

Instructions

Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Spray an 18×13-inch sheet pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, powdered milk, sugar, yeast, and salt.

  3. In a separate container, combine warm water and vegetable oil. Pour the liquid into the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together.

  4. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes.

  5. Press the dough evenly into the prepared sheet pan.

Filling & Assembly:
6. Brown Italian sausage and ground chuck in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat. Season with salt and pepper. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the dough.
7. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the meat layer.

Sauce:
8. In a saucepan, combine tomato paste, water, olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and rosemary. Simmer over low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool.
9. Spread the sauce evenly over the cheese layer.

Bake:
10. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
11. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes
