Ingredients

For the Milk Chocolate Mousse:

1 cup milk chocolate, finely chopped

2 tsp gelatin powder

3 tbsp cold water
Instructions
Make the Cake:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

Add egg, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Stir until well mixed.

Gradually add boiling water, mixing until batter is smooth (it will be thin).

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes. A toothpick should come out clean.

Cool the cake completely before topping.
Prepare the Mousse:

Sprinkle gelatin over cold water; let bloom for 5 minutes.

Melt chopped milk chocolate in a microwave or double boiler; let cool slightly.

Heat ½ cup heavy cream until warm (not boiling). Stir in gelatin mixture until dissolved.

Slowly stir warm cream into melted chocolate until smooth.

Assemble the Cake:
