Ingredients

For the Cupcakes:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 1/4 cup sour cream

For the Rose Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp heavy cream

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp rose water (or more to taste)

  • Pink or red food coloring

For Decoration:

  • Edible heart sprinkles

  • Sugar roses

  • Edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with liners.

  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Cream Butter & Sugar:
In a separate bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla.

  • Combine & Bake:
Alternately add dry ingredients and the milk-sour cream mixture to the wet batter.
Mix until smooth and combined. Fill cupcake liners ¾ full.
Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.

  • Make Rose Buttercream:
Beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar in batches, alternating with cream.
Mix in vanilla and rose water. Add pink or red food coloring to desired shade.

  • Decorate with Love:
Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes with a rose piping tip.
Garnish with heart sprinkles, sugar roses, or edible glitter.

  • Serve & Enjoy:
Perfectly sweet and romantic, these cupcakes are a show-stopping Valentine’s dessert

Notes

  • Adjust rose water to taste—start small as it’s potent.

  • For deeper rose swirls, use gel food coloring.
